I turned 29 during this lockdown and that brings me so close to 30 soon, like most of us I set up my 5 year plan when I turned 25, now these don’t always work how we plan for them to work out especially during this pandemic, I felt so stressed and almost experienced anxiety as I thought I had no control over being able to achieve these due to the restrictions we are facing, it was almost as though I had no control over my life decisions I then realised the pressure I have been putting on myself when it came to my goals.
Goals are very healthy and almost necessary to have in life as they bring us motivation, I always add new goals as soon as I accomplish one however we shouldn’t feel under pressure towards achieving them, we should find a way that works for us, timing is everything and we need to trust that. The biggest mistake I made was putting a time limit to my goals, not having a time limit would have avoided all the breakdowns I experienced in the past month or so. Life will throw obstacles and circumstances that are out of our hands be it your health, your downfalls, loss etc. During these times all we can do is give our best in the moment.
I chose to focus on my inner self and self-develop, I decided to focus on goals that I could accomplish during isolation and found ways to attain the ones I believed I couldn’t in lockdown. I set up small targets to achieve each month and started doing more of what made me feel good and accomplished. I researched diets that could work for me and during this process I realised that I would have never have found these diets if it weren’t for the obstacles. I spent more time working on writing and business plans then I ever have in the past 4 years, yet again only because I have been self-focused during the pandemic and had no social distractions. I even started attempting different forms of writing which came out better than I had thought for it to. I have also had more time to practise different forms of meditation. None of this would have been possible without the obstacle that came along in March.
The few things that helped me the most:
- Practising activities I haven’t before
- Researching on my interest
- Reminding myself of how far I have come & this is short term
- Increasing my time out in nature
- Evolving in my hobbies (eg: cooking, writing etc.)
- Reading new material (listening if you prefer that)
- Spiritual growth
- Communicate with people who are understanding
If you feel anything like I did during the pandemic then I hope this blog helps you a little, we will always have moments in life were we feel helpless and as though circumstances are no longer in our control however the one thing you have always got power over is your thought process. Remember where you started and where you are today and all this has only been possible due that one POWERFUL organ your brain 🙂
